Preparing for winter

Preparing for winter, originally uploaded by Eric Burgers.

Image taken during the golden hour. I spooked the birds during the shoot. This image was taken with the camera on a tripod, using the Cactus V5 radiopopper as a remote. I had to backup some 200 meters before the seagulls started swarming around the tractor again.

High Five! (Semibalanus balanoides)

Finally, I can use my macro lens underwater, and the results are quite impressive. Handling the lens is a bit difficult, as the magnification is 1,5:1 (1:1 macro lens + the effect of a flat port).

I need more practice....

Forest floor

Forest floor, originally uploaded by Eric Burgers.

My first try with off camera strobes. Well, One strobe, an Ewolux 9800A, semi-automatic. There is no way to set this strobe in manual mode (it hasn't got any). Instead, I set it to full power and vary the distance between strobe and subject. Still, this worked out nocely - as if a streak of light hits the mushrooms. Luckily, I received two Yongnuo's to be able to play a bit more with light. Now I have to wait for my camera that is at a repair centre to fix a serious back-focus issue.

Fresh flowers!

Fresh flowers!, originally uploaded by Eric Burgers.

Ok, an anemone is an animal, but spring is here, and the bottom of the Grevelingen Lake is covered with them. Like a huge flower field.

Still no underwaterhousing for my Nikon D7000, so I will have to cope with the Oly for a while....

In the woods

In the woods, originally uploaded by Eric Burgers.

Autumn, the wet season. A dark/light contrast study.

In this image I tried to re-create the mood seen in old Dutch paintings from the 16th, 17th and 18th century ("de oude meesters") , where dark / light contrasts are dominant. I've seen a similar technique used by another photographer, Gerrit de Jong, and I find the resulting images quite interesting and inspiring...

Zeeland Underwater Photography Championship 2010 - 2nd place

My submission to the photo contest "Zeeuws Kampioenschap Onderwaterfotografie 2010" reached the second place.

The goal: submit an interesting tryptich of underwater life in the province of Zeeland.

Rules: no photoshop tricks, only colour adjustments and local contrast enhancements if needed. (note: the original submission was comprised of the above three, but uncropped, images.)

It goes without say that i am pretty proud of this achievement.

At last, I've managed to find time to relax and go diving again after a periode of a lot of overtime. Although the viz was horrible (<1,5 meters), this little hermit crab was sitting still long enough for me to take it's portrait.
